Blogging in America

According to the web site AdAge.com, the web site of Advertising Age, the American Labor Force is spending more and more time reading and writing blogs. An October 25, 2005 report on that web site notes that 35 million Americans spend 3.5 hours per week reading blogs at work. That equates to a daily blog break of 40 minutes. It is estimated that 25% of blog visits are related to work.

Technorati, a search engine, counted 19.6 million blogs in 2005. This total has doubled every five months over the past three years. Blogs fall into a variety of categories. Some of the most discussed and viewed are the news and political blogs. Technical blogs are next.

As a writer and author, I think that blogs are an excellent form of communication. I encourage everyone who uses the internet to blog and express their opinion. This is one way for the "general population" to at least feel empowered, even as the political process in this country gets more and more remote. While we still have the vote, we are less and less listened to by the political establishment and the meda. Both have their own agendas, namely money and power.
